Basic Computer Skills

 

Description: This informal class covers a multitude of topics and is intended for anyone who is new to personal computer use or wanting to learn a specific "trick". Some of the subjects covered include:

 

Create Digital Photo Album: Learn how to take your digital photos and turn them into an album. Learn how to title your album pages, add descriptions to the photos, add auto shapes and clip art, and how to journal about your photos. Then you will learn how to show your album to others, print out the album pages, or email it to family and friends.

 

File Management: Learn to organize and keep track of all your files, folders, and photos. You will be able to locate the file or photo you want quickly. You will learn to move files to new locations and delete files you no longer need. You will also learn to search for files that you forgot where they are saved or what they are named.

 

PCs for Beginners: Learn the basics of your computer. This class is designed for new computer users (or those that just use the computer to play Solitaire). Learn the components of the computer, the difference between operating system software and application software, and learn the basics of word processing. Also, we will cover the basics of the internet and e-mail.

 

E-mail & Internet: Learn about e-mail and how to search on the Internet.  Learn how to create an e-mail account, if you don’t already have one.  You will learn to compose an e-mail, reply to an e-mail, and forward e-mails.  You will learn to send e-mails with attachments and learn to organize the e-mails you want to keep.  We will also cover e-mail etiquette.  Learn to search on the Internet.  We will cover Search Engines, what they are and how they work.  Also, learn how to add words to your search or delete words to narrow your search.

 

Create Business (or Personal) Cards and Stationary: Learn how to create personal or business cards using different programs.  Create a card with your name, address, phone numbers, e-mail address and cell phone numbers to give to family and friends when they ask for your address or phone number.  We will also learn to create stationary, with and without watermarks, for those times when you want to send a traditional letter.
